mission impossible

My current mood...

Here's the thing. I have 3 kids- almost 9, 6, and 4. My husband used to have this unrealistic idea that our new home (2.5 years ago) should look put together, and tidy all the time. (I'm currently laughing while I write this- mission impossible!) We would go in and look at model homes, get some decorating and layout ideas etc. as we were leaving his comments would be something like, "I want our house to always look like this" LOL I swear his mom dropped him on his head when he was a baby. That statement is ridiculous. Not only do we have 3 kids, and a giant Bullmastiff now, but at the time I was a self employed personal trainer and just starting to begin the process of opening a Fitness Studio. As well I like to actually live in my house.

Now almost 3 years later, he gets it! Our house can be tidy, but throw pillows won't just be sitting on the couch, our 4 + 6 year old will actually THROW the pillows at one another, and we will have toys on our main floor ("no toys on the main floor"-a rule he tried to enforce once- Ha-ha!).

The one thing we have learned through this little journey is how to hide our mess, toys + everyday things. I know this is like erasing life lesson #1 from our mothers handbooks but it can really help to de-clutter and seem less overwhelming when we hide "messes". It will also allow smaller rooms to appear bigger and more airy. You don't have to be a minimalist, a hoarder, or perfectly organized- we'll just find a happy medium and a few tricks to make even a house full of kids appear to have Lego free zones.

(photo above- is sometimes what I look like when faced with unrealistic expectations)
