I mentioned last year-haha... (3 weeks ago) that I will be featuring local shops, designers, foodies, bloggers etc. once a month. One from Nashville, and one from my hometown Ottawa, Ontario. Today we shine some light on this hidden Gem. I was truthfully going to an Amish Furniture store in Franklin, TN and came across this peace of heaven. I don't just say that because the interior is adorable and so much love and pride went into it but, the people here are actually the nicest. For Reals. Justin (top notch employee) greeted me and was handing out the best smelling homemade cardamom hot chocolate I ever had smelled. He offered me a cup but because I'm a huge pain in the behind (in other words....vegan) I had to kindly decline. Without hesitation, he says "give me a couple minutes... I'll be right back" Justin returns a few minutes later with a vegan version of their featured hot chocolate. I personally was floored. I shop at Costco and all that so I have pretty well grown accustomed to not having the majority of samples, it doesn't bother me at all, it's my choice to be vegan and I don't expect everyone to accommodate me. The kindness he showed and how he went out of his way to make sure I was apart of their shop local day was humbling. Every employer needs a Justin. He not only went out of his way to re-create this wonderful drink, but he showed me around and told me all about how Herban Market was designed and the love that was put into it.

Ashlea and Matt are the husband/wife owners. Her Dad built all the tables and crates. The wood that holds the sign behind the cash desk is from Sheryl Crow's property.

All the little touches make this place a must see, whether you live in Nashville (suburb Franklin, TN) or you're visiting, their olive oils and vinegars make great gifts and their produce is all local and organic. I can't get enough of these guys. So I didn't... I reached out to Ashlea and interviewed her. I thought it would be great to have her 2 cents as well. Check out our interview below. You can bet I'll be back!!!

North + Nash's Interview with Ashlea Hogancamp (owner of Herban Market)

Matt + Ashlea Hogancamp

1. How long have you been open/established? We opened October 26, 2015. So just a little over a year old!

2. What Inspired the business? As parents, we were searching for only the cleanest food, without the "Greenwashing," misleading product labels, and harmful ingredients.

3. Who designed the interior? What was the inspiration behind it? I designed it actually. My background is in architecture, so it helped with the vision and build-out of Herban Market. The inspiration was warmth, openess, truth and transparency with the use of raw, real materials. Very similar to the mission of the products on our shelves!

4. What's your favourite store item? Kombucha on draft

5. What's your favourite design feature/item? The wood wall. My husband and I searched for the perfect wood, removed the barn wood and de-nailed almost every piece.

6. What is your top seller? It's a toss up between Olive Oil and Balsamics, Kombucha on draft, CBD Hemp Oil, or the Reuben Sandwich.

7. Hours of you are open? Current Winters Hours are Sunday 12p - 6p, Monday thru Friday 8am - 7p, Saturday 9a - 6p.
