JuJu Hat

Ok, this is by far one of the coolest trends right now. Not just because it's cute as heck, but the story behind it. For the longest time I would google 'feather decor' I couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was called. I thought since its the hottest decor piece right now I would give ya'll a little info sess. I did some research in the African culture and found this website authenticafrica.com and here's a brief 'cole's notes' on the history of the Juju hat.

Home to the chiefdoms, kingdoms and villages of Cameroon, Africa. During royal court affairs, the celebrants of the African kingdoms wear a spectacular headdress known as the Juju hat (Tyn hat). It's worn by the chiefs, senior dignitaries, prominent officials and important dancers. These large bright hats consists of multi-colored bird feathers. The feathers range in a wide variety of colors including white, which is the most popular color to purchase in North America. The feathers are carefully sewn onto a raffia finer base then covered with material on the outside that splays out into a huge circle. When not in use between festivities, the Tyn hat is neatly folded in on itself for easy storage. The feathers utilized are considered a rare object of beauty. A symbol of prosperity and for the wealth of positive qualities associated with birds.

I love what these hats represent. It's not JUST a statement piece anymore.

The real question is...where the heck do you get one??? I have found some beautiful ones for sale on Etsy - Obvi. Just be careful when making a purchase, the price doesn't always reflect the quality.

When purchasing off Etsy I always read the sellers reviews before any sale is confirmed....
